Introduction:
Body:
*The misplaced trust issues of disobedience:
I. Trust in Man’s Titles rather than God’s Calling (v. 18-19)
Distinction between the prophet’s descriptions:
Man of God
One of two Nameless characters in the narrative.
Denotes a wonderful dignity and grand significance.
It tells us so many things:
He comes straight from the presence of God.
He comes straight from the court of God.
He carries the inspiration of the Almighty, from God Himself.
He is God’s representative.
He is God’s ambassador.
Prophet, or
Nabi
Directive between the prophet’s descriptions:
Man of God = Faithful Teachers
“Prophet” = False Teachers
Determinations from the prophet’s descriptions:
Don’t be a lazy disciple.
Don’t be a title-struck disciple.
II. Trust in Angel’s Words rather than God’s Words (v. 18)
-Supernatural Claims vs. Established Word
The angel that “spoke unto” the old, deceitful prophet.
The angel that “speaks unto” the new, deceitful prophets.
III. Trust in Man’s Words rather than God’s Truth (v. 18)
Uncontested Acceptance of the Prophet’s Claims
Unrestrained Rebellion of God’s Truth
Disobeyed God’s direct revelation and command to him.
Showed no remorse at God’s rebuke and judgment.
IV. Trust in the Big Things rather than Trust in All Things (v. 22)
The Man of God’s Willingness to Obey in the Hard Aspects. (v. 1-10)
The Man of God’s Failure to Obey in the Easy Aspects.
